The current economic climate is prompting all hauliers to look closely at their operational processes to ensure they continue to compete effectively whilst delivering top quality services for customers. This week, after sixteen years working in partnership with Palletways, Welch’s Transport have announced their intention to move on, and will be joining rival network Palletline on 22 March 2010.When the company’s membership agreement with Palletways came up for renewal, Managing Director Jim Welch decided to explore alternative options. “In what is now a mature industry sector, I believe the member-owned networks have a better chance of success than the highly leveraged, venture capital business model, with all its associated cost,” stated Jim. “I am impressed with Palletline’s hub facility, the emphasis placed on quality and the way member interests are central to the development of the business.”In addition, Jim feels strongly that Palletline’s most recent technological advances in terms of digital signature capture, consignment scanning and the ‘virtual hub’ capability will further enhance the quality and value of the service he provides to his customers.Palletline’s Managing Director Kevin Buchanan “We are currently being approached by a growing number of companies who see the advantages of the way we operate, and also recognise the targeted investment that has gone into the business over the past couple of years,” he commented. “We have implemented a number of organisational changes to accommodate Welch’s Transport, and feel sure the company’s quality focus and operational ethos will complement our operation.” Welch’s Transport will continue to service the Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire area on behalf of Palletline from its two existing depots in Cambridge and Bedford, via a fleet of eighty-five vehicles. In addition to its transport operation, the Welch Group also operates mobile cranes, car and truck dealerships
